So far after 5 months I adore the Q990C and has completely changed my perception of soundbars and what they can do. Decided to give my home theater system a streamlined update after my old plasma TV died (replaced with a Samsung OLED S95C) and wanted a neat setup. As an audiophile, I feel soundbars have come a long way and this one sounds almost as good, and in ways better, as my trusty 5.1 receiver and speakers (Yamaha receiver, Bowers and Wilkins speakers) this has replaced. I have a large open concept living room/kitchen area with vaulted ceilings, and I can confidently say, the Q990C can fill the entire space with immersive sound. It lacks some of the punch, richness, and full body sound that my old 5.1 system had, but improves on it with the surround sound bubble with Dolby Atmos and the latest DTS:X decoding, and a very sleek, clean design. Overall, the Q990C sounds great for movies, TV, and games and has a very clear and crisp sound. The dedicated, powerful center channel definitely helps this soundbar have excellent speech and dialogue performance when watching content, while the 3-way rear surrounds provide a strong (wireless and easily placed) true surround sound immersion. The main bar is crisp and punchy, this side of a Nakamichi Dragon, while maintaining a decently slim profile, though can sound a bit clinical and lacks some warmth. The only place where this system seems to really fall short is with the wireless subwoofer. For the power that the rest of the system puts out, the sub simply doesn’t seem to have enough power and oomph to keep up, making the whole system sound a bit lean for the space I have it in. Had they gone with 2 subs, or simply a larger single sub, this would dramatically improve the sound to my ears and make this a hesitation free recommendation. Music just sounds flat and uninspiring listening to this soundbar, so I will stick to my dedicated amp and 2.1 setup I have for listening to music, granted that I’m comparing a soundbar to a set of massive Bowers and Wilkins 802Ds and an ASW-2500 sub. But for someone looking for 1 simple system to do it all, the Q990C is hard to beat, especially given the price vs a component system (or a Dragon). Do I miss some qualities of my old custom setup? Sure I do, but the packaging of this soundbar, updated codecs, combined with the immersive Atmos sound, I’m do not regret switching. It’s simply a very clean and good sounding solution for anyone looking for full surround immersion in an easy to setup system with seamless connectivity (eARC & Q-Symphony), and overall impressive for its size sound footprint. A definite must buy for a one size fits all solution. Simply fantastic!

I’m technically reviewing the Q990D (2024 model) as that is the model I received although I ordered the Q990C (2023 model). However, from all the research I did, they are very comparable in sound and features and basically identical in look and dimensions. First off, I recommend downloading the Smart Things app to aid in install and configuration. Set up itself is relatively simple, only power cords (no bricks) and an hdmi cable. All components sync wirelessy and I have it hooked up through ARC hdmi port on a 6 year old 55″ Samsung tv which immediately recognized the soundbar system. Movie experience is amazing, very immersive and enough lows from the sub to give the boom when needed and you can easily adjust for more/less on the remote. There are four sound modes, three which utilize all the speakers and one standard mode that is just front facing using the soundbar and the sub. Listening to music is also very balanced and punchy and BT connection to phone is basically no different than pairing from any other portable BT speaker. Overall, the system is versatile, not too big, and volume is robust even at low levels. Prices seem to fluctuate so you shouldn’t be paying MSRP making it a great value. I also have higher end component systems that go bigger but you simply can’t beat the convenience of wireless speaker pairing of rears and the sub without giving up sound quality. Side note – if you don’t want to use the satelite speakers in the rear configuration, it can be positioned and calibrated for front R/L speakers along with the soundbar creating more front spatial sound design.

I could not be happier. I’m an audiophile and I’ve had surround systems before. This Samsung soundbar floored me. Amazing crystal clear vocals, much better than my Klipsch center channel. Bye closed captions. We live in a flight path, and this soundbar adjusts automatically for plane noise. I haven’t had to turn up the volume to hear the dialog above the plane noise with this soundbar yet. The atmos on this is really good. I have a fairly large living room, and this sound bar fills the room with spatially stunning sound, when watching a show with good sound mixing. 2-channel music is good, quite good, just not as good as I’m used to. It’s great for walking around, but seated in my focal point, the 2-channel setup is much better. I very happily got rid of my 7.1 amp which i was trying to do music and surround through. I’m now doing a 2-channel specific setup and the soundbar for TV. AppleTV is winning for great sound mixing so far. Setup was “pretty” easy. There were no instructions in the box, so I downloaded a manual. I love not having to run wires through the wall. I am using this soundbar with a Samsung TV, so I do get Q-Symphony, and fantastic integration. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. Bought for $1087 through a third party seller. No hiccups at all.

I have used this sound bar for a week now and it seems like a winner to me. I ordered it used/renewed/refurbished (Which, I don’t remember) and it looks great out of the box. No issues setting up all important stuff was included as far as I’m aware.I have had issues out of the app but its not too important to me at this point. I dont have a samsung TV so I cant try out Q-Symphony or what ever its called. I really dislike proprietary things because of things like this. But what ever, atmos still works. Only issue with that is I have not found much streaming content out there except for Netflix that puts the bar into Atmos mode. There is allot of content on Netflix that says Atmos but not allot that I want to watch at this point. So ill have to get back to you when I get a good amount of that content watched.I subtracted 1 star from sound quality because I watch allot of music video content on youtube and my old 2.1 channel bose system was a little better for this. I could put the sound bar into standard mode but then it sounds a bit lifeless even with EQ. So that is my only minor issue with the sound so far.I do wish the LCD screen was a little bigger. Its hard to read as only 3 characters fit on the screen at a time and the text scrolls slow so you have to store the characters in memory and wait for the next 3 to show up and append it then put them together in your head to figure out what it says. So things are abbreviated and confusing to remember. The app is a better choice if it works as mentioned above.Over all Im happy with my purchase especially at nearly half the price of a new unit!

This system was easy to install and sounds great. Yes, it’s pricey but you get what you pay for

I recently bought an LG 77″ OLED TV and I was using an older LG soundbar which I never felt had the best sound. I replaced the LG bar with another bar but was not satisfied with the sound. After reviewing many tests I decided to try the Samsung Q990C and what a difference. The sound really fills the room and surrounds the listener. To install I connected the sub woofer and rear surround speakers before connecting the soundbar. Once I turned on the sound bar the other speakers paired automatically. I have not had any speaker dropouts so far. I was also surprised to find my LG remote and my Xfinity remote controlled the sound from the bar without any additional setup. The system has fantastic base. I actually had to turn down the woofer setting to make the sound more pleasing. The vocal clarity is much better than my LG bar. This system is not cheap but you can really tell the difference from other sound bars. The minor issues are the area provided on the bottom of the soundbar for HDMI cables is very tight and the power cords for the rear surround speakers could be longer (they are only 5′) but I purchased some others at 10′. Also while I appreciate the front display on the bar it could be larger as it is difficult to read from a distance but really not required as you can use the phone app and also see some settings on the TV screen.

Easily the best sound bar ever. I’ve had many high dollar sound bars klipsch, lg, Sony etc and this is by far the best quality

I bought a top of the line Samsung soundbar with bluetooth speakers years ago because it was suppose to improve voice clarity on the TV. I was never happy with it but paid a high price for it and thought the lack of clarity was something we had to live with. My wife and I have been reading subtitles now for years. One night my wife out of frustration and disgust said with all my research skills, surly I could find a better speaker than this one. That sounded like a challenge and I went to the internet and started my research. There were several brands that were “Top rated” for sound but I was looking for one that improved the speech so it could be understood. After days of looking at reviews I was drawn back to the new SAMSUNG HW-Q990C, because of its voice quality. It was about the same price as the older soundbar I have but I figured over the years they must have improved its voice clarity, Besides I figured if it didn’t then I’d return it and live with the old one.It was a snap to set up since all of the cords were the same and it even connected to the external speakers automatically. When I turned it on WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! This soundbar is such an improvement! The remote bottoms are easy to program the speaker even calls out when I hit them whether voice recognition and voice clarity buttons are on or off. It’s such a difference that we no longer even have to read through a movie like in the “old days”. Even my wife (who is not easy to please) comments on the voice clarity. We are SO happy with this purchase.

Series X, PS5 sound incredible. Tons of bass. Installation was easy. Wish it had on-screen options though.
