For those of you who think that modern day phones are too big, this flip phone might be for you. I certainly didn’t want to jump into the 1st few generations of a flip phone since I wasn’t convinced about the folding screen quality and durability. But the tech is much better now and the folding screen isn’t so hard to get used to.The specs say this phone is solid. Maybe just a half step down from a flagship phone. I thought that between the Samsung Galaxy flip 5 and this phone that my wife would opt for the Samsung as she’s been using Samsung for the past 3 or 4 phones. I was surprised when she agreed to go with the razr.In terms of specs, the flip 5 has a slightly better processor but you can’t tell a difference in real life. Same ram and memory for the same MSRP. The inside screen is comparable with the flip 5 being a little brighter but both are clear and sharp and offer a very nice viewing experience. You need to get used to the crease. Buying a flip phone, the crease in the screen is inevitable. When doing any surfing, I find my wife and I forget about the crease. In fact, she hasn’t said a thing about it since the 1st day.The outside screen on the razr is hands down better. It allows better screen customization than the flip 5 and it’s slightly bigger. It’s also a higher resolution screen than the flip 5. I like how you can put almost any app on the small outside screen. You must use the stock keyboard for typing on the outer screen but that’s fine. It’s a full qwerty keyboard. Fat fingers will struggle but if you are petite like my wife, it’s just fine. For anything quick like responding to a text, the phone stays closed and she responds on the outer screen. For anything more time consuming and intensive, flip it open and do your thing. My wife was getting tired of the big phone. The s21 ultra was big enough that she always had to think about which purse to take. Small purses weren’t really options. That’s why I thought I’d steer her towards a flip phone. It’s so nice and compact and this magenta color is really sharp. Perfect for her. Today she went for a walk. No keys. Just her phone and earbuds. It was perfect cuz she had small shorts with small pockets and the phone fit with room to spare. Any other phone would have fallen out.I have thought about downsizing the phone myself. But really, if you can deal with the crease on the main screen, it’s still a big screen at 6.9 inches and bigger than most of the modern phones. That’s plenty big when you flip it open. But it folds so small that it fits nicely in your pocket. It’s thicker than the current phones when folded up but thinner when open.Almost forgot to mention, when we were looking at the flip 5 and the razr, one thing I didn’t like about the flip was how much the camera stuck out. The flip has squared sharp edges while the razr has rounded edges. So the razr is sleeker. The rounded edges of the razr let’s it sit in the hands better than the squared off edges of the flip 5. Both have a power button fingerprint reader. I don’t know how sensitive the flips reader is but the razr is really sensitive and fast.I know the reviews say the flip 5 camera takes better pictures. Maybe when you compare side by side but by no means does the razr take bad pictures. This is getting nitpicky. Sure, you are allowed to critique what you spend your money on but the reality is, the camera is just fine on the razr. I have not put it to the test. My upcoming vacation should allow me to see how good the camera is. I have no doubts my pixel camera will be better but it was better than the s21 ultra too (and just about any phone I’ve tested). Thus far, my wife hasn’t said anything negative about the pictures she has taken. But we’re not super duper picky. If you buy this phone fully understanding the limits of a flip phone and it’s advantages and do not have unreal expectations, I think this phone is almost perfect. If I needed a new phone, I would definitely consider this one though I’d probably wait for the newest model due out mid year in 2024. I’ve always loved the razr line even dating back to the original flips Motorola used to make. Seeing that iconic name back in play with a new modern day phone has really perked my interest. I’m just really glad it has lived up to my expectations.

This may be an odd thing to assert for a phone, but the Razr+ 2023 has been surprisingly good at helping me in a long term recovery from a brain injury. It’s familiar and solid — the controls are great, the software seems peppy, the displays are both *really* nice — but it’s also different enough thanks to the flip-fold and external display that I can build new associations to new workflows and have an easier time of it.Further, I replaced my Pixel 7 Pro with this, and I won’t ever look back. The Pixel 7 Pro had a lot of weird issues I don’t expect in a modern phone. The Razr+ had none of those issues — peripherals work on plugin without troubleshooting, biometrics aren’t unstable — it just works. Also, it’s pretty and fun to fiddle and play with, which forces me to engage with it and again — helps with the therapy. The flex-stand stuff — folding it in tent-shape or like a tetris block so it sits on your desk as a player — works *remarkably* well. There seems to be little wear on the hinge so far. Bluetooth just works out of the thing.I did get a case on it as soon as I could — Jerry Rig Everything discovered the non-display half of the phone’s glass back has little protection behind it so it can crack easily, even if the phone’s displays are solid — and that’s worked perfectly well.It does charge pretty slowly (amusingly, plugging in a DAC/headphone jack adaptor convinced the phone to rapid-charge when plugging into the mains didn’t), but it’s reliable in that charging. Wireless charging is 5W and acceptable for that level. The battery’ll easily give you 24 hours and really doesn’t drain fast under load, but a lot of modern phones will give you 48 hours in the same conditions. It’s not a major issue, however. All in all, I love this thing. It’s good for my brain.

I was deciding on whether to buy the Moto Razr+ 2024 in hot pink or the Samsung flip 6 in yellow. I’m so happy I went with the razr+.I’ve been an apple user for 10+ years but this phone made me switch in a heart beat.Battery life is great, I can go with one charge for almost a day and a half.I was a little concerned about the camera set up at first but after having this phone for a few weeks now I am amazed by photo and video quality!I find myself using the external screen way more than having to flip open. You can use and access any app from the external screen. When opened the main screen is large, bright, and looks great. The “crease” is there but for being part of the design- you’ll rarely notice it.If you have been thinking about switching things up with a flip phone, go with the 2024 razr+ you won’t be disappointed.

First you have to ask yourself if a flip phone is right for you? Standard phones are optimized for a large battery size and a top notch camera, but not optimized for convenience of size when carrying/portability and when in use for basic phone functions. Flip phones are optimized for convenience of size/portability. But the form factor forces a compromise on battery size and camera capability. I put a priority on convenience/size, so a flip is a no-brainer IF it has the necessary functional capability. The RAZR + does, with the inclusion of the external screen as it enables my most used functions without the need to open the phone. I’m not the type who buries my head in my phone all day on social media/TikTok and/or games. If I were, then a flip may not be optimal.Based upon the above analysis, the question then comes down to the razr+, or the Samsung flip 5, since they both have external screens. The factors favoring the Samsung are that it has the more powerful Snapdragon Gen 2 vs. the Gen 1 in the Razr+. Since I don’t put high demands on the processor the Gen 1 in the Razr+ is more than adequate for me. Another advantage it has is a marginally better camera, though neither is as capable as what can be had in a brick phone. Again, this is not a high priority for me. So this leaves one final advantage for the Samsung, and that is water resistance. The Samsung is rated for surviving being submersed in water, where the razr+ is only rated to be splash resistant. In all the years I’ve had a cellphone I’ve never dropped it in the toilet and don’t plan to in the future (or any other body of water for that matter). Though this is not a vital factor for me, if all else being equal, then it would be a deciding factor. But all else is not equal. For one thing, while the razr+ is not as robust against water damage, it is rated much higher against dust, which I understand to be important for flip phones. But the key advantage for the razr+ is the external screen. It as much higher resolution, and importantly, it is much easier to use a number of apps. Thus, 80+% of the things I do with my phone I can do without the need to open my phone- text messaging, making/receiving phone call, assessing my wallet and the QR code I need to enter my gym, and any other QR codes for various tickets. The Samsung external screen is much less capable and more complicated to use apps. So, for my needs, the razr+ is the clear winner. Another thing to note is that reviews often state the hinge on the razr+ seems less robust and does not inspire confidence as compared to the Samsung. However, it seems very robust to me, and when compared to my son’s Samsung Flip 4, I see no difference. Though the Flip 5 may have an improved hinge compared to the flip 4, I dunno. Since I can do most of what I need to without opening the phone, I would be putting less stress on the hinge compared to the Samsung any way.In short, I would say the the razr+ is optimized for flip phone advantages. While the Samsung seems to be trying to please both the flip market and the brick phone user. As a result, it is sub-optimal for both. I suppose if you have other Samsung devices, such as the watch, then maybe the Samsung environment may be important to you.UPDATE: 9July2024I’m loving it even more with time. I rarely have to open it up. Even with writing text messages, while the external keyboard is smaller than the internal, the folded phone fits so comfortably and securely in my hands, I am able to type just as well as with a standard keyboard. With my old phone I was always, annoyingly, aware that my phone was in my pocket. With this, I often find my self checking my pocket to make sure it is there.

When I first saw this new phone, I thought it was a gimmick. However, after purchasing it and using it for 6 months now, it is a very handy phone. I love how compact it is to stay in my pocket, especially since I have female jean pockets! I also enjoy how fast the processor is. Every year, I feel like I use my phone for more and more. Now, this device can produce quick products at a efficient rate! I love it!Also you barely notice the line in the middle of the screen from when it folds. It’s pretty seamless unless the screen is off! I recommend this phone to anyone who doesn’t mind the price or having to open their phone when they wish to use it!

HAve had for almost a month now. Loving it so far! I thought it would take a bit to get used to it, but it took me right back to my first Motorola flip phone! I use the external screen for so much! I dont typically have to open the phone unless I just want too. Battery life seems decent. No issues with BT, Sounds good. Not as fragile feeling as I thought it’d be. No regrets with this purchase.

I bought a Motorola phone last year and I was thoroughly impressed with the look and the operation of the phone as compared to the other brands I have bought over the years, such as Samsung and Apple. I did however have to return it because I could not get it to work with my CGM (constant glucose monitor) used with NGC – the same wireless system used for Apple Pay and GPay. I did bring it to the attention of Motorola and they gave me a number of things to try but it just would not work with the Abbott Libre system, and thus I had to return it.What a difference a year makes! Not only does this phone work with my CGM, but I did not even have to put on a new CGM, which is typical when you change phones before the 14-day operational period is over as one phone does not recognize in most cases the same CGM initiated by a different phone. This one not only recognized the CGM but it read it as if I initiated it with this phone, which I have to tell you I was thoroughly impressed with!As for the more than 100 apps that I normally use, the information copied from my old phone went flawlessly, and I had trouble with this even with the S23 Ultra that I am replacing with this phone. It went so quickly that I had to check and be sure it was complete. The system updates went on in the background flawlessly I was not even aware they had been done until the phone informed me that they had been completed. The screen quality is excellent, much better than I anticipated! The cameras although only moderately high in pixel count, take excellent pictures, and since most of us are not Frederico Fellini, the picture quality is excellent and no one except a supercomputer or a really terrible camera could tell the difference! What it lacks in high pixel count it makes up for in picture quality. Colors are excellent even in low light! The external screen gives you a bunch of information and does not require a special app to use your apps as is the case with Samsung and the Fold 5. In fact, I haven’t had to open it once since I loaded it up. I read some complaints about battery life, even at the height of reinstalling all the apps making all the personal adjustments, and having the internal screen open for about two hours continuously using the phone, the battery level never fell below 90% which is about the same as the S23 Ultra I’m replacing it with.Understandably have only had the phone two days, but it is off to an excellent start. Today I actually go back to work which would be the ultimate test of its battery life and durability. I’ll keep you updated.

I’ve used many phones over the years, and recently made a point to avoid Samsung phones; Too many people won’t consider any other brand of Android phone, despite many deserving entries. The Razr Plus 2023 flip phone is definitely one of those deserving entries. One of my concerns migrating away from the Motorola Moto Z3 was battery life. The Moto Z3 allowed for a battery pack mod to magnetically attach to the phone to extend the battery life, which I thought was hard for a phone going on its own battery alone to compete with. The Razr Plus 2023 actually does very well for battery life, lasting almost as long as the Z3 did away from my wireless charger (2-3 days). Of course, whether this will hold up with age remains to be seen. Of note, I am not the type that constantly plays games or video on my phone, but I do stream Spotify to my car radio. I took the phone off the charger at 100% and did a quick errand once to a 7-Eleven for something. It was about a 10-minute trip where I was streaming audio off the phone and using Google Pay in the store. When I returned home, the battery was still showing 100%, which was rather impressive. It helps that this is a beautiful-looking phone. Motorola calls it Magenta, but it looks more red to me, which is more to my preference, anyway. It’s a nice color. Both displays are nice and readable. I was concerned the fold would be very distracting when the phone is open, but it’s barely noticeable. The small screen while the phone is closed works well enough to do quick texts and status checks, but for me, it’s not a substitute for opening the phone. It’s still very useful, however. Google Pay and Wireless Charging still works when the phone is closed, and will be primarily how you’ll be using those things. The phone effortlessly pairs with car radios for Wireless Android Auto, which was important for me since my car radio is nearly useless without it.This phone would be an easy recommend for me to anybody who wants a modern take on the flip phone without the innate pricey-ness of a Samsung phone. It’s not just a gimmick; it can change the way you interact with your phone.
