We purchased this a few years ago to scan old family photos. We’ve scanned a couple of thousand now and this thing is awesome! It is super easy to use and the quality of the scans is phenomenal.Literally single button scanning.

Recently I needed to scan crates of old family photographs before I put them in storage or sent them on to relatives. I already had a scanner but it wasn’t good for the job. The Canon LiDE 400 was the solution I needed.QUALITY OF THE PHOTOSThe LiDE 400 gives me good-quality scans of my photographs. It is good enough for family photos that I will pass on to other relatives and probably never touch again. The maximum resolution is 1200×1200 dots per inch. I can scan tiny pictures at that resolution and enlarge them to see details I would have missed otherwise. (Although this depends on the quality of the original pictures.)AUTOMATIONThe LiDE 400 has an auto-scan feature, which makes it easier to get through a lot of pictures. You can put a photograph on the scan bed and press a single button. The scanner will automatically scan the picture at 300 dpi, crop and rotate the picture, and place it in a folder on your computer.Sometimes the auto-scan feature doesn’t do exactly what I expect. Sometimes it crops off the white boarders in a weird way. Occasionally it decides to make my photos into PDF files instead of JPEGs. If this becomes a problem, you can use the ScanGear software that comes with the scanner, which gives more control over the process. or you can use your own software, like Photoshop. The scanner is also good for creating PDFs of old documents. You can scan multiple pages into one PDF file.OTHER NOTESThe scanner was easy to set up and use. It has a single USB-C cable. There is not separate power cord. When I plugged the scanner into my computer for the first time, Windows downloaded the driver automatically and the scanner was ready to go.If you are in a similar situation, I think this scanner will work well for you too.

Oh so easy to set up! No more than 15 minutes to configure and test the buttons, Photos to Adobe Elements, Documents to Adobe DC, Copy to my Laser Printer and E-mail to MS Outlook. The software is easy to use and all the scanner options are easy to find. Do not let the small size fool you. This is the 1st scanner I have bought since 2003, an Epson 4490 Photo, It’s HUGE compared to the Canon. 4800 dpi in a scanner an inch and 3/4 tall. Higher the dpi you set the longer it takes to scan. This is with any scanner.Bottom line: For the money, I’m extremely happy with its performance!!

Minimalist scanner produces excellent results. I have used it to OCR scan several books in Norwegian. Frankly, it’s the best OCR scanning I’ve ever done. It has trouble properly interpreting superscripts, confuses g with q and occasionally some capital letters like M which becomes IU. So I have to quickly edit the text, but I just run it through a Norwegian spellchecker and quickly fix the few that occur. With previous OCR, I spent so much time editing, it was often faster to just retype the text instead of scanning it.I also use it for scanning other documents as jpgs or pdfs and the quality is excellent considering how inexpensive this scanner is. I have not used it for color photos, so I can’t vouch for this, but it outperforms every scanner I’ve had in the past so I suspect color photo scanning is at least as good.

I have used this scanner to digitize literally thousands of photos. The quality is great for the price, I now understand why this was voted the best inexpensive scanner to digitize photos. It’s quick to use once you learn how to use the software – I could typically scan over a hundred photos in an hour, and the delay was prying them out of albums. The scanner was almost always faster than I was. My only complaint is that when digitizing, it saves the entire scanner tray as an image, so if your image is smaller than the scanner, you then have to crop it to its correct size afterwards. However, I do prefer that, as then I know that it’s not auto-cropped incorrectly. Overall a great purchase and still using it.

I purchased the Epson Perfection V39 Color Photo & Document Scanner with Scan-To-Cloud & 4800 Optical Resolution, Black and it was a piece of garbage.BUT, This Canon CanoScan LiDE400 Document Scanner, Black is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It installed without any problems, and it just plain worked. The scans were excellent, and I use Adobe Acrobat as my scanning software because I work with PDF files 99 percent of the time. The Cannon Utility Scanning Software that comes with the CanoScan does everything you need, from picture, PDF, and cropping of the pictures. This is a great product, and it is a USB portable light scanner that works. I usually do not write a review, but I am so impressed with this scanner.

I like the scanner well enough, I use it for artwork and the colors are ok, I usually have to do a little adjusting. The only trouble I had was with the set-up, but if you read the instructions they make it clear: move the lock button on the bottom and download the driver at ij.start.canon.

I was concerned ordering this, as to whether it was compatible with Windows 11. It is! I read one comment where one purchaser had to return the scanner for not being compatible. When I updated my computer to Windows 11, my old scanner a Canon LIDE 90, was no longer compatible. This new one is much quieter and faster than the old. The scanner bed measures 8 1/2″ X 12″. I have no idea how the sideways scanning works. It seems like a motor would be needed to draw the document into the scanner. The software takes some learning to operate, but overall, I’m pleased with my purchase.

This scans quickly, with correct colors at only 300 dpi, and without graininess. And the included IJ Scan Utility is great. Allows you to save to whatever location you choose and allows scanning to pdf and OCR. The pdf utility also allows cropping and rotation of images. Haven’t tried the vertical scanning feature yet but there is a big enough lip on the scanner bed to keep items from sliding. Having only one cord for both power and file transfer saves room and less wire tangles. I have several hundred family photos to scan and I am glad I have this scanner.

I’m scanning family pictures I’ve so far scanned over 3k. I can scan 3-4 per scan. They come out very clear! No setup needed just plus it in! It is time consuming but I didn’t want to buy a $200 scanner so I knew that going in. They Download to the documents file on your comp. I then put them in folders and on a hard drive simple process! Also it’s very lightweight!
