Works as Advertised
Let me start out by saying, these things are a breeze to setup up. All you do is download the app and follow the on-screen instructions. I had no issues setting up either one of the devices I bought and they both connected to my wifi flawlessly. I love the professional looking display and voice commands work very well aswell. Also, the sound quality on these is pretty good considering the cost. Sound quality isn’t JBL Charge level good but it’s definitely better than phone speakers. They are loud, clear, and even have eq settings you can set through the app. You can even set these Echos up to play music through all of your Amazon related devices at the same time which can be useful and save you a ton of money.Prior to purchasing these gadgets, I read mixed reviews on a lot of the things I mentioned, but I haven’t experienced any issues. Some of the settings can be a pain to find, but overall, the app will walk you through setup step by step what you need to do to get them working and connected to your wifi. If you have connection issues, you need to check your network settings or your wifi range. My 2 complaints are, 1) the devices came caked in dust even though the box was sealed; and 2) the buttons could feel a little higher quality. I don’t use the buttons at all due to voice commands and control through the app, but that may be an issue for some users.Something else I noticed was the horrible reviews linking the devices to Spotify. I didn’t have these reported issues myself, so they could’ve been fixed with a firmware update, but it’s definitely worth mentioning.I feel like a lot of these issues people are having are either network issues, or user related issues. If you take your time and follow the on-screen instructions, you won’t have any issues. At the very least, my experience was great with them and yours will be too. I highly recommend this product.

Amazon hits the Spot
Loving the Spot as it has a nice yet subtle display that is easy to read with nice features that are easily programmable The sound is rich and clear, an upgrade from my echo dot 5th generation. It linked up to my Govee smart bulb with no issues and works great via voice commands or using the app. I also like that I can link my smartphone to it and play all the music on my phone thru its speakers which sound much better than my phone’s speakers.I would have given 5 stars except that the weather temperature on the display doesn’t keep up real time with local forecast as it seems rather slow to update unless/until I ask Alexa the weather at which time it updates to what Alexa says that gives me the weather temperature that matches my outside conditions. No big deal as I usually ask Alexa anyway. I did try to troubleshoot that issue with Amazon tech with no real solutions. At any rate that’s my only issue with the Spot as everything else works and looks great and I am completely satisfied, especially seeing how I got the spot on Prime days for 55% off regular price making it even more worth the price.Update: the issue with the display showing the correct temperature has gotten worse as it now says 85° on the display and it’s 96° outside according to local weather. I asked Alexa and it says it’s 96° outside which is correct but the display hasn’t changed and it still says 85°. Everything else is fine so if you want a good Alexa smart device that does everything except give the correct weather then it’s a good buy but only if you can get it at a discounted price. It would be worth the full price if everything worked as it should (meaning the weather bon the display).

Crisp Sound and Sleek Design
This is my first ever owned Echo Speaker, however…Design: I honestly fell in love with the design. I think it’s very modern and the way it incorporates the clock with the speaker is very well done.Sound: I’m honestly impressed by the sound quality. It is very loud, crisp and clear. It isn’t the ABSOLUTE loudest or best speaker out there, however, it performs incredibly well. The bass very good and very present for such a small device.Alexa: The Alexa feature on it is amazing. Very versatile with what you can do with it and it’s very responsive as well. I love that you can control so many things with it if you have the right accessories.Screen: At first glance I though the whole top portion was a screen, but it’s only a small square in the center. The screen itself is very bright and pleasing to look at. Touch screen is very responsive and decently customizable, from color to clock format, but I wish it had a few more options for how you want the clock to look like, though, it’s not an issue at all.Connectivity: Very seamless and easy to handle with your phone (Alexa App). There are many options on how to use your Echo Spot and though I’ve only gone through a few, I’ve seen the rest of the things I can use the app for, and it is so versatile. I’m sure WiFi connectivity matters when it comes to response time between your phone and the Echo, but the response time was very quick in my experience.Cord: It brings a decently long cord. Would be nice if the plug was a bit less bulky, but again, minor inconvenience, not an issue at all.Overall, this is a solid product and I highly reccomend it if you’ve never had one. I did buy it with a few things in mind though. I wanted to get the most out of it, so I did order a fan and some light bulbs to control with it, and I can see myself wanting to get other things to use my Echo Spot with, however, the speaker on its own is still a great Smart Speaker/Clock.

Fast Response Times, Good Sound – Nice Upgrade Compared to Google Nest Audio
My partner has Alexa equipment and we met I had a Google Home system. Honestly, I’ve been wanting to replace Google sometime due to ongoing security concerns, Google’s awful search engine results, and at times it would randomly speak Spanish to me? Anyways. The speaker’s sound is awesome, clear, and I am enjoying trying out different music platforms to test the speakers. The mids and treble control is heard well in this speaker. Doobie brothers sounded pretty damn good from it, Dance Gavin Dance, Beastie Boys to name a few.The touch screen is a nice add on, I really like the visuals and customization. Sure, it could be better in ways but it’s premium budget smart speaker. If you’re looking for audiophile level look into Sony, Bose, etc.Communication with the unit is refreshing. Executing commands are easy and it’s responsive, Google would go brain dead on basic commands. It’s a relief that smart assistants can be reliable. I’m shocked to say it, but Alexa takes my voice for best assistant compared to Google. The speaker is capable of recognizing Dolby Atmos from music or if your phone has the feature. I love listening to audiobooks on it, Alien Out of The Shadows is a different experience compared to the Google Audio Nest.I paid for the speaker and this isn’t a paid review. I owned Google speakers for several years and watched their assistant go from reliable to giving me concerns for my safety at times. Is Alexa perfect? Probably not, but compared to my experience with Google it’s a relief.

Alarm Doesn’t Work – Fixed now
I set the alarm for 6:30 AM and before it goes off it automatically sets itself into snooze and adds 9 minutes to my set time. When it gets closer to its own set time of 6:39 it happens again and adds another 9 minutes to the alarm time. This happens continuously for a hour and 20 minutes so an alarm I set for 6:30 AM goes off at 7:50 AM. This is unacceptable. A alarm clock that you can’t depend on is worthless.I called Amazon tech services and they had me reset the Spot back to factory settings and set it up again. Then we tested it by setting alarm for 2 minutes ahead and it worked so we thought it was fixed. So the next day I set the alarm for 6:30 AM weekdays and this morning it went off at 7:50 AM. Junk !!! I’ve checked everything in the Alexa app and have tried setting the 6:30 AM alarm up using the app as well setting by voice. It doesn’t matter the 6:30 AM alarm goes off at 7:50 AM.I give up and returning this worthless alarm clock.Update: Amazon Outreach Department contacted me about the problems we were having with the Echo Spot alarm. It seems some other people were having the same problem. We run fans at night and the Echo Spot tap feature was on. They asked me to turn off the tap feature in the Alexa app. We did and now the alarm has worked perfectly ever since. They said there seems to be a correlation between fans running and the tap feature on causing the Spot to reset the set alarm time into snooze mode automatically. We have a 2nd Echo Spot which wasn’t set up for an alarm so I tested it. On Monday I set its alarm for 7:30 AM with the tap feature on and the bedroom fans on.Sure enough the alarm failed and it set itself on snooze mode for over 30 minutes. So on Tuesday I set the alarm for 7:30 AM with the tap feature off and the fans running. It worked perfectly and went off at exactly 7:30 AM and no snooze problems. Problems solved !!I don’t care if the tap feature is off in the Alexa app, just tell it to snooze by voice and it works perfectly and only snoozes for 9 minutes.I have reported my findings to Amazon as they are working to figure out why this is happening. There seems to be a correlation between the tap feature on and fans running in the room.Anyway the Spot alarm works perfectly now on both Spots and we love the Echo Spot now and everything it does.I want to thank Amazon for actually caring and reaching out to me and working together to fix this alarm problem. I was going to return them but now they work perfectly and we really like this device so I’m canceling the return.

Alarm Doesn’t Work Well – UPDATED Review
UPDATED REVIEW: Amazon definitely does care! I got a call from Amazon Outreach Support and she very kindly emailed me instructions for a work around they have found. Turn off tap gestures in the Alexa App. It WORKS! I am beyond thrilled both with Amazon’s support and also with this Echo Spot. I love the look of it and the way it functions and now that I have the alarm issue fixed thanks to outreach support, I am 100000% satisfied with this Echo as I have been with all the other Echo products I have in my home! I completely and without reservation recommend this new version of the Echo Spot. It is wonderful!I am so unhappy with this Echo Spot that I am not looking to go back to an old school digital alarm clock. First let me say I have tried unplugging, factory resetting and deleting and then restoring alarm and none of these have stopped the issue. The issue is I set the alarm for 5 am every weekday, as I have for many years with my old Echo Show. The alarm goes off for maybe 2 seconds at 5 am and then it automatically snoozes itself for 9 minutes. So what do I have to do? Set my alarm for 4:50 every morning so that I take into account the fact that my Echo seems to think I need an extra 9 minutes of sleep every day? I’ve read forums and this seems to be a known issue predating this version of Echo. So far Amazon doesn’t see fit to solve this issue.

Better Than Expected With A Design Flaw
I had two different versions previously. One was the version with a matrix display and that has worked very well for us. The other had an LCD screen and really, really stunk. It showed the time between showing ads and got unplugged within a few minutes.I worried that this one was going to be the same, just a lousy ad delivery system. It is much better than that. The sound is good. The display is clear and it displays the time and weather quite nicely. I found the night mode too dark to read. The design flaw is that they angled the display up several degrees. You see, LCD screens are somewhat directional so viewing them off-axis makes them appear dimmer and with less contrast from the background. If you use this as a clock and it is below the level of where you sit or sleep then the flaw will not be noticed. However, if you have it upon a mantle or table or you bed has you lower than the device, the display will appear dim and the background behind the lettering will glow. This is the case here. I used a wedge to angle it up so the display is nearly perpendicular to the ground and our viewing angle minimizes the dim display problem. It has never shown me an ad. I’ll chuck it out a window if it ever does. It performs its function as a clock very well without too much additional nonsense. The final weird thing is when you perform a function like changing lights or stopping music, the light or music screen remains on for a long time before switching back to the clock. I thought it was messed up at first but it just has an annoyingly long delay.

Great little device
I first saw this product last year. I think it was an older model. I wanted one for my bedroom to use as an alarm clock and listen to music. I was hoping they would come up with a new model and then I saw this. It was at reduced price. So, I bought one. It’s smaller than I thought, but I still love it. It shows the time and the weather on its screen. It has snooze feature. It’s just the right size for my side dresser/drawer. The only problem I have is that you can’t pair it with any other type of echos. I bought an echo pop, hoping I could pair them. I found out the hard way that you can’t do that. It only pairs with another Echo Spot. So, if you’re buying one, thinking you can pair it with another type of Echo, then don’t. Echos pair with the same type only.

FINALLY!!!! The clock face displayed ALL THE TIME
What I hated about the SHOW’s is the clock “rotated away” from displaying the clock time to display of “other-things”. And every time I glanced at the SHOW, it was displaying other-things. They say that “rotation” could be turned off, but not really. With everything turned off the face still rotated away from displaying the time. Very annoying. But now, while this echo spot 2024 is more limited in what it can display i.e. no video & no security cams, what it can do makes it the perfect bedroom/office/kitchen/living room smart clock. Looks snappy and very usable. The perfect nightstand clock for the entire family.

I like it but some controls only seem to be in the Alexa app
I like this Spot and it’s size and speaker quality, but what seems odd to me is that – unless I’m missing something – the touchscreen controls don’t have the full range of settings available and you have to go to the Alexa app or voice control to do basic things like set an alarm. This isn’t really a major problem but it makes it tricky to set an alarm if your significant other is already asleep, for example.Even some of the basic setup can’t be done using the touchscreen on the device, such as setting the time zone. This would mean that anyone less technical hoping to get one just to use as a simple alarm clock, with some extra music or weather info, would have to use the Alexa app to be able to set it up, which could be problematic or frustrating. The screen is nice and clear and the different display formats are fairly good, although only a couple of them show the date or the weather so if you want that then you’re rather restricted.I would love to be able to turn the display off and it would be perfect if it could be set so the ultrasound movement detection could turn it back on for a period of time (eg wave at it to make it show the time). Haven’t figured out how to do either though but will update if I do. The ability for both aspects technically exist in the device already so I’m hoping it’s there, and if not, it might get added in the future.Overall I would recommend the Spot despite the peculiarity of the drawbacks notes here. Just something to be aware of if they would be dealbreakers for you.

Numbers are very small
This is a great Alexa device to use as an alarm clock. Very easy to set up and use. I took off one star because although it has multiple clock faces, none of the numbers are big enough to see clearly at night and without glasses. I used to have an alarm clock that had 3 inch tall numbers and it was awesome to see the time without my glasses at night. Please, please, Amazon, consider adding a huge clock face choice with the next software upgrade. I would really appreciate it and I’m sure many others will too.

Great for bedside
Great bedside alarm clock! We had an echo 8, but it was just to bright for a bedside and sometimes I would go to turn it away from me and accidentally touch the screen making alexa start playing whatever it was promoting. This is more of an alarm clock with a simple screen display of time and weather. It still handles echo commands, has decent sound for a bedroom, and is not so darn bright. As some have said, it was slow to react to commands, but they must have done an update and now commands are done promptly. Sound was better on the 8, but sleep is better with this!

I like Alexa again, great unit.
I got tired of Alexa and found my love for Alexa again. I have a LG liquid screen TV that is also Alexa and I still use the cube to control a few old technologies. I find Echo much more convenient than the Hey Google on my phone. My home is one huge room, open concept SO Alexa hears me through out the house. Simple things like time, weather, music, alarm, and the list goes on for personalization. Super easy set up. I mean really really easy. Cool Spot.

No ads!
For years I was using an echo show as an alarm clock and the bright random ads would wake me up. Like a flashlight in the eyes. This is perfect. It shows me the date, time and weather. Is easy to use. However you cannot stream video on this but that does t bother me. Will be buying these as Christmas presents for everyone in the house. I’d recommend the extra base with charging ports. Total game changer

Black, with a Clock!
I love my Black Echo Dot Gen 5, but is does not have a clock. The Echo Spot is available in Black with a Clock, and a touch screen! The touch screen’s usefulness is limited to programming the Echo Spot, but it is also a display for the time, with six different options. One option includes the temperature, month (spelled out) and date, and one option includes the temperature, day and month (both abbreviated), date, and icons to indicate the weather; e.g. sunny, partly sunny, cloudy, raining, etc.And of course, the Echo Spot does almost everything that all of the previous Echo Dots and the Echo Pop could do. I think the Echo Spot is the best Amazon Alexa Echo yet.My wish list:The ability to add to or personalize Alexa’s list of names (wake up words)The ability to add sound bites for alarms, ring tones, or sounds.

Updating my Review to 5-Stars!
UPDATE: Amazon called me after reading my review and sent me trouble-shooting tips. If the trouble-shooting didn’t work, the rep would assist me with a warranty replacement. I thought I had already tried everything, but I was wrong 🙂 Per Amazon’s very first trouble-shooting tip, I changed the wake word, and it resolved everything! Even after I changed the wake word back to it’s original wake word, the issue is still gone! I finally love my echo spot, just as much as my other echo devices!5 STARS TO AMAZON’S CUSTOMER SERVICE!(Original Review)For the first time ever, I Regret purchasing an echo product. The echo spot has been an awful miserable experience. She doesn’t hear me half the time with the wake word, When she does hear me, she’s very delayed to wake up. And literally almost every time I have to repeat myself two or three times or raise my voice in frustration to get her to respond.I’ve already tried all the steps to fix the issue and nothing works.I’ve been using echo devices since 2017 and never had this problem before. I’ve had almost every gen of the show, multiple dots and the kids devices. Never had an issue until now.I bought this To replace my Perfectly working Dot on my night stand. She has 3 jobs…turn my lights on/off, set my alarm, and play meditation music at night. When I have to go to sleep and wake up every morning repeating myself to the point where I’m screaming at it, it’s no longer just a piece of junk…it is actually negatively effecting my mood first thing in the morning and as I’m trying to fall asleep asleep. As I write this I’m actually speaking into my phone sitting right next to my echo. 2 feet away. I said her name ‘echo’ 4 times. She only heard her name once.

An almost perfect clock radio
I’ve been looking for a clock radio for my bathroom for a long time. Since it’s not an active category in the modern age, everything is weird to charge, weird to change the time, weird colors and materials. So I sprung for the Echo Spot because it had a screen and a speaker. Perfect.I always leave the unit muted which is nicely identified by a red illuminated button so I know I’m not being spied on, unless I’m actively speaking to it.It has a nice clock display that has night mode that’s wonderfully dark, just enough to see the time but not too bright to wake you up.I use it for music for my dog and push to unmute, ask the computer to play whatever, then immediately mute it again. Speaker sounds great at the low volumes I use it for so it was totally worth it for those 2 features. Why rate it less than 5 stars? Because its connected to my amazon account and every so often it makes a (very nice) chime and the screen tells me something like “Your Package Has Arrived” or “Compliment your driver?” Thankfully it’s easy enough to ignore but is still annoying. I also wish it was USBC so I could use a shorter power lead since it’s about 2′ away from the wall outlet.Anyway – good clock radio!

Fantastic Smart Alarm Clock – Super Fun to Customize *Edited Since Purchase
Packaging: Shipped in Amazon box. The product was packed tightly in a branded blue and white Amazon container. Contents only included the device itself, a charger, and directions.Product Impressions: It’s super cool you can set up the device beforehand on the Amazon app or online on a webpage. On a basic level, this can simply be a alarm clock which I tested and worked perfectly with the Alexa app on my iPhone. I am a security guy and like my privacy, I love how easy it is to turn off the microphone by the press of one button on the device so it cannot listen to me anymore. On the other hand, I did play around with the app more in depth and with the device itself and found the settings to be pretty deep but also fun. I set up fun routines so that when I wake up, it tells me the weather, the traffic, chances of rain, etc. along with custom messages like, “here is today’s forecast” and such. The device is pretty customizable on the app but I wish it did have more clock faces for how much I paid for it. My biggest gripe with the device is: No power=No alarm. So if the power goes out in the night and doesn’t come back on by the time I wake up, I will not have an alarm. Granted this happens rarely, just wanted to point it out. The speaker is fine for a 1.5 inch however don’t expect quality sound. It sounds like a JBL handheld speaker if that helps.Usability: So many fun settings to customize for all fun tech people! You can even make it private and turn off A LOT of functionality for privacy if that matters most.Overall Thoughts: Price is kinda high but it’s super fun and I love playing around with it with custom queries! I hope future models will include areas to put batteries in case of power outage.**Edit: Dropped to 3 stars. Since purchasing this device, I have had the power die twice from thunderstorms. The process of reconnecting this device to the Wi-Fi and having it update the time/date was very frustrating. With the warning above, if your device loses power overnight, it will NOT wake you up on time.I came home in the evening to a clock that was wrong time-wise so I first checked Wi-Fi and found it to be disconnected. Apparently it did not try/succeed at reconnecting even after 4 hours. So I went to work as I work in IT and troubleshooting things is just another fun walk in the park.. I first tried to connect to the Wi-Fi using the instructions in the Alexa app, no dice. What was even worse was it did not even let me change manually from 2.4Ghz to 5Ghz as it kept having me try to connect to 2.4Ghz without any option to add another network. Noted as I will add the device to my 5Ghz channel after this post (lesson learned).. I then connected via Bluetooth and even that did not help either. After rebooting the device 3 times, it finally connected to Wi-Fi through the troubleshooting methods from earlier. After that the time would still not correct itself. After thinking about it, I changed the time zone within the Alexa app (and changed it back to my time zone) and that seemed to fix the issue. Weird how my Roomba can auto re-connect to Wi-Fi yet this device cannot easily do the same? Either way, is this a deal breaker for me? Not really, life happens. But just wanted to warn y’all that it could be a bit frustrating if you live in areas more prone to power outages.**Edit #2 After Yesterdays Fun: My alarm did not go off. Luckily I was woken up randomly by a text but my alarm did not go off. Long story short, the device somehow disconnected from the internet and I had to fully factory reset to resolve the issues. Amazon should really test these devices more during R&D..

Loving my new smart alarm clock-Echo Spot
I’m impressed with my alarm clock so far. I’ve owned it for more than a week. Im able to set up multiple alarms for different days of the week. I can see what alarm is set for the next day including the time It will sound, so there is never any doubt that its set. I love the different alarm sounds and voices I can use to customize how I will be alerted in the mornings. The sound is very good in my opinion. I have it in my bedroom and I listen to pandora or my apple music while I work remotely. My kids like to use alexa and play truth or dare. It is pricey but I love techy things so I dont mind. I was able to make monthly payments which is a great solution, if you don’t want to feel it in your pockets all at once, for buying a small device. It is worth it and Im so glad I purchased it.

I Love This Little Spot!
Let me tell you how much I love this little thing! When the original Spot was released, I’d pre-ordered it. I was so excited for it to come. It was going to be the perfect new bedside alarm clock for me due to my previous one of 20 some years finally having died. And it was and is still going strong. Since buying that, Amazon has come out with the Dots which this is not! And Echoes which are okay, but those have turned into advertising units that you either can’t stop showing ads or, if you’re able to turn the ads and things off, it only lasts a few days before they start all over again. Then along comes the New Spot! It’s a Wonderful Thing! It primarily does ONE THING and does it so well! It’s a clock. It’s. A. Clock! Oh, it makes the announcement noise for things like deliveries, etc, but the Echo Show 5 I replaced with this Spot used to show me announcements and ads and all sorts of things I kept turning off that kept coming back and rarely showed me what time it was which is the one thing I wanted to see on the face. This Spot shows me what time it is unless I ask it something. I’m so impressed that Amazon finally listened to people and designed this unit to give me a clock! There’s a yellow line at the bottom of the screen if there’s a notification. There’s a clock face that shows the weather behind the clock. And there’s the clock that’s easy to read. The speaker is good, better than the original Spot, not a high end speaker, but has come a long way from the first one. My hope is that Amazon will leave it alone other than operational updates because this one is almost perfect! The only thing it won’t do for me so far is show me my Ring cameras. I can live with that.

Pleasantly suprised
My original office Echo started to act funky (not in a good way) so I opted to use the Amazon trade-in program to get some money for it + a get a 20% discount on a new Echo. My original was slender and tall, and I didn’t think it fit well in the limited space I had. Working remote, I thought it would also be nice to have a clock with weather and the date. I love the footprint of the Echo Spot. The screen is clear and the brightness is adjustable. It has some nice subtle animations and I like how the alerts appear. My favorite parts about it are the quality of the sound (feels full for the size) and, when it gets dark out, the clock face turns to a low red color. It’s still very visible, but it’s not a stark blast of digital light in your face. I have not messed with all the features in the app, but I know there are some choices, such as display color, and face theme. Overall, I’m happy with this upgrade.

No detailed user manual
We have 4 Echo devices in our network controlling a variety of items in our home. My wife needed a new alarm clock on her bed table and this Spot was being sold on pre-Prime day at a discount. It arrived the next day and was easy to set up using a QR scan. The user manual is a very brief and gave only the basics. Usually there’s a link to a more detailed manual but not in this case. You have to be careful because the Spot was originally introduced 6-7 years ago and then discontinued. This 2024 version is different so the old manual and much of the online discussions relate to the old model. Many functions can only be set by using the Alexa app on my IPhone. Some are available using the touch screen on the Spot. Over three days, through trial and error, we finally have it set up to do want we want. Most of our adjustments related to night brightness and volume. The night brightness has two modes. One is total night where the numbers change to a faint reddish glow which we found difficult to read. The other mode adapts the display to the level of ambient light. That works well and we adopted it. The one feature we couldn’t believe was missing was the inability to turn off a preset alarm without speaking out loud to Alexa. This was when either of us got up before the alarm went off and we wanted to silence it without speaking. Since there’s no manual, I contacted tech support and they couldn’t help me. They recommended using the Alexa app on my phone. That means we would always need to have a phone available and go through the menus. Unacceptable! Finally, after many many attempts, I finally found you can do that by tapping on the alarm display on the main screen. That takes you to a second display of the alarm detail and then you swipe left. The screen changes to a red bar with an “X” on it. Touch the X and the alarm is gone silently.Otherwise, the device seems to work well and so far, we haven’t heard shopping ads as are present on other Echo devices.

It’s what I wish the Echo Show was, but smaller.
The media could not be loaded.
It’s no secret that Amazon subsidizes the cost of their Echo devices and even their Kindle devices by feeding you constant streams of ads and suggesting skills. This is the very thing I absolutely hated about my old Echo shows. So much so that I just stopped using them altogether. Eventually I tried some settings to stop the ads but it rendered the Echo show virtually useless. I had it. Amazon needs to provide everyone an easy way to opt out of these ads, even if it costs extra money. Kindle devices give you the option to pay to remove ads, but Echo devices don’t offer this. I’d gladly pay more for a device to not feed me ads while it send telemetry back to the company. But I digress…Enter the Echo Spot. It’s truly everything I wish the Show was, but in a smaller package. it does NOT feed you visual ads at all. Alexa may still make some voice recommendations but I have yet to experience much of that. Put simply, this is a smart speaker with a clock, weather , and music display and nothing else unneeded. That’s what I wanted to begin with. This device is simple, has no camera (which I never used the Alexa video calling anyway because come on, everyone has a phone and/or tablet or computer nowadays) so theres no worries about it peeking in on you. Sure, the Echo show has a shutter for the camera but it was so easy to open accidentally and sometimes difficult to tell if it was closed or not.Moving along, the audio performance of this speaker is not bad. It doesn’t push the volume that the Echo Show does but that’s fine for me as this is really just a bedside device for me. It can play music as I fall asleep and I can set a sleep timer to turn the music off after a certain duration. So in that sense, this device is much better for my needs than the Echo Show.In summary, this device fills a need for people like me who want a simple device that only displays what I want it to. Yes it is small, but that’s just fine for what this is. The sound is better than you’d expect. And after I traded in my old Echo Show this cost me barely anything. I am happy with it.One thing to note though, and Amazon, please take note of this as well…. ALEXA SKILLS STILL SUCK! HORRIBLY! Sure there are some that work just fine. But there are so many garbage skills and Amazon really needs to set some quality standards for these and work more closely with developers to make Alexa really useful. I think this is where the whole Alexa ecosystem falls terribly short. But don’t let that discourage you from this device. For what this is intended to do, it is my favorite Echo yet.

So much better than the Echo Dot 5th Gen
I’ve used almost every version of the echo product in my home since Amazon started making them. The worst so far was the Echo Dot 5 Gen which was a ball with speaker material all around it which I am getting ready to slam dunk into the trash can. The Echo Spot is one of the better devices. It provides all of the basic services of earlier versions of Echo small devices along with a clock display face. Every command I have given to the device from different areas of the room it is located in has been responded to. With the clear clock display I can see the time if within view of the Spot or ask for the time when further away. So much better than my experience with the Echo Dot 5 Gen device.

Good screen, there are better speakers
I got this to see if it would be a better bedroom clock than my Echo Dot (5th gen) with clock.Result: some ways better, some ways not as good.Good: Better clock…clock isn’t as bright when lights are off which makes it better for sleeping and you can have other things in screen like currrent outside temp. Not as good: speaker isn’t as good as 5th gen Dot. Sound isn’t as full (less bass), and the volume is about a full step less (2 on Dot is about 3 on this device). If you’re just looking for an alarm clock and not concerned about sound quality this is one should do the trick. If you want better sound and a clock, then go with the 5th gen Dot.

My first Alexa!!
100 🌟’s for me! I finally purchased my first Amazon Alexa product! I’m slowly getting used to talking to her so she can do things for me!! I love the alarm feature, has helped this extremely heavy sleeper not be late to work everyday! Question…does anyone else feel like they need to tell her thank you every time?!?! No, just me 🙋🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤣

First Day of Use Impression…
I’ve only had mine for 1 day, and am so relieved it is not a repeat of that awful Echo Show with its continual unwanted screen changes. The audio is improved and the available displays, though sorely limited in choices, are at least mostly devoid of unnecessary graphics and weird configurations. The other significant improvement over the Echo Show is that you adjust the settings with your iOS/Android device instead of having to wade through endless tiers of menus and submenus. While not as good as the previous iteration of Alexa using web access (another awful decision to do away with that), this is much better than having to poke around on the device itself to make changes to settings. While apparently everybody who writes software at Amazon must be under 26 or something, please give some consideration to those who can’t see 1/8th inch tall content from 8 feet away: create a few more screens where the alternating temperature/date display is bigger, and allow users to chose between alternating or picking one or the other as a constant secondary display. Hopefully this could be accomplished without reducing the size of the time of day display, it’s perfect how it is. If this happens, I can add a star.

It does what it needs to do
I upgraded my Dot to the new Echo Spot. After I placed my order, I got notification that I could set it up while it was in transit. When I received it, I just plugged it in, it connected to my internet, and I customized the clock. It is cute and works as an alarm, but I can still ask Alexa stuff and play music and sleep sounds. It does what an alarm clock should do.It has the screen set to dim and it turns red at night so it’s not very distracting. I was worried about that because it is right in my face at night on the night stand. The screen is clear during the day and comfortable to look at at night. Music sounds nice and the Thunderstorm sleep sound sounds really soothing and much more realistic on the Spot.I knocked off one star because I love to use Sleep Sounds at night. But when I do that, the screen stays on the sleep sound screen and the clock is very tiny (but there) and it is fairly bright. If Amazon could make the red clock face run while listening to sleep sounds it would be 5 stars!

So far so good
Still learning how to use all features but I love it and waiting on stand. Not sure why they didn’t have a bundle. Has the usb charging ports. Cool screen display and the beetle juice theme is so cute. I highly recommend and I rather wake to this then my phone alarm every day. Definitely would recommend convenient and loud will wake you up and in a not so annoying way for me lol. Thank you 😊

Alexa PERFECTION!
This is EXACTLY the Echo I’ve been waiting for! I had a very old Google clock with the weather. It stopped working recently and I have been on the hunt for a smart clock with weather on the screen EVER SINCE. I have Alexa in many rooms of my House but never in my bedroom or entryway because I wanted the weather and a clock and that was never available except in the Show, which was just too big for my spaces, until now. I highly recommend the smart bulb bundle as well. Set up was plug, open Alexa app and let it update. Then I went in and picked my clock face and color scheme and set up routines (which was a bit more complicated than it could have been to find in the app but that’s an app issue not a device issue) I love the blue color and the size and the customization ability. Thank you Amazon for this awesome addition! I have already bought two and am considering a 3rd! 😁

Great buy.
This is a perfect clock for my bedside table. The numbers are easy to read. The brightness goes down at night so it’s not glaring when it’s dark. And it’s Alexa so it answers questions and plays music etc!!! I’m thinking about getting another one for a different room!

Animation cannot be disabled
Just received this this morning. While destined for my nightstand it’s currently sitting on my desk and I’m listening to BBC radio on it. Seems that there’s no way to disable the animation when music / radio is playing. It’s *extremely* annoying. The name of the radio station constantly scrolls and an animation of the audio flickers away in the background. I just want to revert to the clock while it’s playing. You can actually see for yourself in the product page which proudly shows a scrolling song name and audio animation.EDIT: Discovered you can say ‘Alexa home’ and it will hide the music player. I still don’t like the little icon showing music is playing but it’s much more tolerable for now.Amazon: PLEASE add more options for customizability of the basic built in functionality, considering how different users may use it.Was also somewhat disappointed to see this doesn’t use a USB-C cable. I suppose it’s for constant power supply but it seems a bit ironic to see a sustainability statement for a device that comes with a proprietary power supply. But I suppose you’re not going to lose the cable. The viewing angle of the display quickly gets dim when viewing from the side. This may be a good thing on a nightstand to reduce light coming towards your pillow – and I can’t see it anyway until I’ve put my glasses on.Other than that it’s a nice upgrade from my old Echo, sounds good and trade in discounts can be applied to Prime Day sales prices too.

Perfect device for my bedroom
This device took the place of a forty year old clock radio. It takes up less room and does everything I want it to. I love that it dims itself at night and brightens in the morning. Having the Alexa feature is a plus and the bedroom device easily distinguished itself from my other one in the kitchen. Set-up was easy and I like the different display options for the face. Wish I’d gotten this sooner!

Does What it was Designed to Do
I’m a little shocked at all the negative reviews. I’ll be the first to say when something isn’t up to code, but this works as intended. Make sure you carefully read the reviews because a lot of the complaints are very situational to the reviewer. Essentially, this is a bedside alarm clock. That is what I bought it for and that is what it does. Someone mentioned not being able to plug in external speakers to it. Not sure why you would buy this as a party type speaker. I will say the built in speakers are plenty loud, and dialogue/music is clear.Another reviewer mentioned ads and volume increasing automatically. So far I have yet to run into an ad. If that happens, I imagine it won’t be nearly as intrusive as the Show, which has a much larger screen. As for the alarm clock features, you can use Alexa to set up routines much like the other Echo devices. Right now, I have it set to wake me up and then read the weather, time and my calendar upon alarm dismissal. It’s a nice feature and makes me feel informed upon wake up. Also, you can tap the top of the device like a traditional alarm clock to snooze the alarm (provided you leave the mic on).I know mics in the bedroom might be an unattractive option. Thankfully, you can turn that off at the touch of a button. It contains no camera, so you don’t have to worry about that at all. Finally, someone mentioned not being able to turn off the display. I am also someone who likes to sleep in the dark. This so far hasn’t bothered me, and it’s a lot less bright of a display than the Echo Dot with Clock was. I got used to that being always on, so this should not cause you any issues if you are coming from that. This thing does what it was intended to do. If you are trying to do extra things like use it as a party speaker or you want full control of the display, you may want to look at other options. But for smart home integration and Alexa routines, this is the device to get.

Update 8-10-24 – I’ve sent this thing back. I’m now using my refurbished DOT.
Update 8-10-24 – I’m shipping this back. The problems with the clock legibility just got the best of me, and with just two days left on the return window, it’s outta here. What a perfect idea that failed for me as a classic case of FORM OVER FUNCTION. The cutesy clock faces were fun, but not one of them was clearly legible (at least give us ONE option for bold, large, white letters!) And when the alarm is sounding (including coming back from a snooze) the time got so tiny I couldn’t read it. Why? Because they added a cutesy ‘GOOD MORNING!’ and two tiny little alarm icons below it. And remember, the actual screen on this thing is misleadingly small, it only takes up a small part of the glossy part of the unit. It kills me that Amazon won’t build a simple unit that is mainly a clock and alarm. I’m back to using the refurbished DOT that was sent to me to replace the first DOT (which, like many others, began not recognizing my voice). Fingers crossed that this one will work. It does exactly what I want from a smart alarm clock. If only they were built better. (Amazon no longer even makes a DOT with a digital readout.) Fingers crossed…Update 8-6-24 – I checked my settings tonight to see if Amazon might have added any new clock face options to this product. Sadly, they have not. So in addition to how disappointed I am that they don’t offer a plain bold white digital clock that is easy to read, I also want to add that when the alarm or the snooze goes off, the clock gets SO TINY that you literally can’t read it. So if you’re like me and take advantage of the awesome, adjustable-interval snooze feature, when it wakes you after a snooze, YOU CAN’T SEE WHAT TIME IT IS. AMAZON, why can you not take a product that could have been perfect, and just simply make it perfect? All I want is a legible, voice-activated alarm clock that is reliable. Instead, we get this new unit that looks, from the early reviews, to be a solid 3.0 rated product. And sadly, I agree with many of the reviews. We have a dozen Alexa products in our house, everything from the original Pringles potato chip tower to this Echo Spot. I was thrilled to buy this because it looked like the successor to the unreliable Echo Dot with Clock that I had replaced twice because it kept failing to respond to my voice. So here’s the SPOT. The GOOD: It sounds great, it responds to my voice every time, and it’s easy to set alarms. The BAD: With 6 clock faces, not a single one of them is just a basic white block letters sized font…they’re all either skinny fonts, or thick fonts with dual hues that make it difficult to read. And the analog clock style only has 4 numbers (12-3-6-9) which makes it especially hard to tell what time it is. Some of the styles are just cutesy and cluttered, and it is true that though it looks like the screen is larger, it actually is a small part of the larger glossy ‘lens’ (which is also very difficult to see from any angle other than straight-on). I do like the style and the features. I can only hope Amazon will see all of the negative reviews regarding the clock faces, and release more styles, including a thick blocky single-color option. It really shouldn’t be this hard.

Clock needs more options
I have other Alexa devices and love the uses. This one misses the mark slightly. I have wanted to replace my dated alarm clock for some time and thought this would be just right to do so. The device sits on a slight angle. This makes it somewhat difficult to see the clock clearly while laying in bed. I have tried changing the clock display and it is still not much better. It would work better if it was not angled and faced straight out.

The less hated alarm clock
Back in the 1980’s, I bought a very popular cube of a radio/alarm clock. Basically, I woke up to a radio station every morning! Then in 2011 I purchased an alarm clock that displayed the time on the bedroom ceiling which had the ill effect of keeping you awake once you woke up in the middle of the night wondering if you would go back to sleep! I disabled the projection and lived happily ever after! And then, having many of the Echo devices, I saw this alarm clock and decided to try it. Pros: nice display choices; Alexa commands; touch control on screen and device itself!; not a bad sounding speaker: Cons: I still don’t wake up looking any younger! Damn it!

Upgrading my old clock radio
My old clock radio was only being used as a clock. It had a feature that allowed listening to local TV stations. As time moved on the TV feature became extinct. If the power went out I had to reset the time and wake up time. When this unit was on sale during the Amazon Prime Days I made the purchase. It’s loaded with Alexa so I can listen to my Amazon music playlists as well as local radio and Serius XM Radio. I can shuffle a playlist and tell Alexa to turnoff after 30 minutes, an hour or when the playlist is over. I can verbally ask to set an alarm for my wake-up. And the unit takes up very little space. It’s a great upgrade from my ancient clock radio.

Over Priced BUT…..
I believe this has to be one of the most basic Amazon devices I’ve ever owned. The device is nice made of plastic with a glass touch screen pretty small screen for the size of the device as well as some weight to it. I got this on a prime day special and thank goodness not worth the regular asking price at all. It’s a steep price to go add free on the device in my thoughts. It has create quality by all means but not for 80 dollars worth thank you savings. Set-up was seem-less especially as I did most before my device arrived with the help of already having devices and the app and the email to help me initiate the start. Great sound quality for a small device perfect next to my bed as a smart alarm clock. I like that it just works with my Alexa system already in place just like how my apple eco system works. I’d say get when on sale or if ya can’t wait or worry about it going out of stock before then I’d pick it up. It does the basics and doesn’t get overly fancy but as said get it on discount don’t pay full price not worth it

So cute!
I love the looks of this echo dot! And the screen is adorable! It seems to pick up on my voice better than the Alexa I’ve had for a few years. It also has great sound for music. And considering I’m blind as a bat without my glasses…I can see the screen clearly on my nightstand on the other side of the bed! Win, win!

Wake up!
So the first night that I had this set up to wake me with the alarm, I almost didn’t wake up. The sound was so soothing that when I eventually woke up, thank goodness I tested it on a weekend, I was only half woken and couldn’t figure out how to turn the alarm off and was very annoyed. Then I remembered it was an Alexa and I sternly told her to turn off the alarm. I will have to go in and change the volume or sound completely so I think after that it should work better for me. But it’s awesome just to have to know the weather for the day, any crazy news, and start up a playlist for getting ready in the morning! Great little device!

Nice upgrade
I replaced my 2022 echo with this version and I’m happy with it. I love the different colors and the clock going very dim at nice so there isn’t any led light showing the in room yet you can still clearly see the display without hurting your eyes. Good sound quality and I like the touch screen capability.

Perfect for kid’s room
My kids love having their own Alexa and I LOVE the mute button. I hesitated getting an Alexa for a bedroom because I didn’t like that the mic was always on. Absolutely love that you can mute the mic on this. Great job Amazon for adding that feature. Volume can go really high and I was surprised by the quality of the sound!

Dim at night, and that’s a good thing!
I bought this at a Prime member introductory price to use as an alarm clock. My wife is very sensitive to light when she’s sleeping. Every alarm clock she tries is too bright. She puts them on the other side of the room, drapes cloth over them, etc., etc. to make them less annoying. The product description doesn’t provide any details on the display dimming features of this device, but I figured it was worth a try for 45 bucks.Long story short… on the dimmest setting and night mode (red display), this clock is dim enough for her. She can even keep it on her nightstand! The display brightness is easy to set on the touch screen, which is a plus.I can’t speak to the other features of this device, but if you need an alarm clock that is very dim at night, this could be it.

Perfect for my needs
This is perfect for me as I live in a small apartment and was looking for both a clock and a bluetooth speaker. This is exactly that, so do not expect something different. Sound is great for a bedroom or a small living room and the display is bright enough to see at a distance, but you can also dim it down if you want. Got it for $40 (which I believe should be the default price) and I am very happy with it.

An incredible surprise
First off, I really enjoy the previous edition of the Echo Spot. I certainly didn’t pay retail for that since that pricing was a joke. But the weighty little device has good oompf for its time, was a cute little device, and did it’s purpose–telling the time. This new Echo Spot is on par with that older device, with much better speakers and just as much simplicity. While (IMO) not as cute as the older model, it has a similar footprint–actually more akin to the Echo Pop. In fact, I only expected the sound–especially the bass–to only be as good as the Pop due to its size, but the Show 2 REALLY can fill a decent-sized room as it can be quite loud.People who are complaining about not being able to see the clock when playing music must not actually be looking at the device–the clock is right there, on the top of the device. I do wish the alternative watch faces all had the ability to delete the lead zero from single-digit hours, and that all faces showed the weather. And for the first time, the dark blue guy comes with a BLACK CORD. I fully expected the unmatched white, and was quite surprised.Highly recommended, and, truthfully, not as unbelievably annoying as the 5″ Echo Show with its rotating ads and constant “Alexa can do this” annoyances. If the clock starts getting that crap, I will return it, but for now, well worth the price, on sale or not.

Eek!
Just got this all set up last night and let me tell you, it does not disappoint! Love that you can change the clock set up on the face, change the color of the display, and the touchscreen use! It is awesome and was definitely a great upgrade from my Echo Dot hockey puck lol. It will only respond to my voice so far. It will not recognize my daughter. Which I am not opposed to, as this is in my bedroom. Have not set up any routines or tested how it does with music and such. It does have a nice, loud speaker for alarms though! Looking forward to playing around with this some more and seeing what else it can do!

Overall good, but has a few issues
Overall, I do really like the look of this alarm clock. It’s come in handy to help me with waking up in the morning. However, there are a few problems I’ve run into using it.Firstly, if you have more than one alarm in your alarms on the app, the active alarm seems to ring for a second, then go silent. I fixed it by getting rid of the other alarms in my alexa app, but its not ideal. Also, I’ve asked Alexa to change an alarm through voice command once, but the next morning it did not go off at all. And when changing the alarm face, I had to unplug and plug back in to get it to change. So I’ve found setting the alarm in the Alexa app seems to be more reliable. Also, as a speaker, it is not really the best quality of sound, but I guess it gets the job done. The quality is more noticeable when the speaker is at a louder volume.Overall, it is a handy alarm clock, but does need some bug fixes with the firmware/software

Great alarm clock
I needed to replace my old alarm clock that woke me to the sound of the ocean. I took a star away for two reasons: there is no ocean sound on this one–only a series of random nature sounds and, currently, you can’t purchase additional sounds. 2nd, it can’t make a ticking sound, which I like to hear, now and again (like a real clock).Anyway, the night mode is perfect–the display is not bright enough to stab me in the eyes at night. The sound is great for listening to music while dressing or cleaning. Yes, your phone could do the same but–I don’t have a cellphone (I know, I know). I haven’t had one in many years, so this works for me :)It could be improved by adding the ability to set alarms from the device screen instead of having to use the app, though.

Works Fine As An Alarm Clock – With Music
I swopped this out for my Echo Show whose features were wasted on my bedroom night table. This works fine. The alarm was easy to set up. Waking to the radio was a little trickier, and now the alarm goes comes on and then the radio about a minute later. I’ll try deleting the alarm to see if I can make it just wake by the radio.

Works okay
I have an original round tube shaped Amazon Echo device. However, by replacing it with this, I have something smaller and doubles as a nice small alarm clock with display. This allowed me to get rid of my old Sharper Image talking alarm clock I was holding onto for the indoor and outdoor temperature and weather, plus a display time. While the sound quality isn’t as good as my original Amazon Echo, it clean up my headboard shelf area.

Beautiful alarm clock
I have had this Alexa Spot device for a few months now and I have no complaints. I use it as an alarm clock in my bedroom and it does its job outstandingly. It stays connected to the internet without issues and it has excellent sound. The display screen is a bit small but I mainly use the voice feature so I don’t find it too inconvenient. There are so many other features that I haven’t used but so far it has checked all my boxes.

IMPRESSED BUT NOT IMPRESSIVE
So far this new Echo Spot is ok, a few things are annoying, but overall I like it. 1st thing I do not like are the buttons on top. In the middle of the night or even just regular use, they are not easy to find personally, I would have made them with feedback raised to where you can feel them, they are flush with the unit itself which makes it difficult to find them by reaching over. 2nd, I need the radio on when I sleep, I like listening to music, I was able to find my local radio station and when I ask to play it plays, but I have noticed sometimes it stops playing and I have to ask Alexa to play 107.3 in the middle of the night. It’s a radio station, it should not cut off. 3rd the touch screen for menu is seriously lacky I have to keep touching it over n over before it pops up, but over all happy.
